Roofers return to winning ways at Thornaby

JARROW Roofing bounced back to form with a 3-0 win at Thornaby last night in the Ernest Armstrong Memorial Trophy.

Having lost 5-2 at home to promotion rivals Guisborough at the weekend, boss Richie McLoughlin was after an instant improvement from his players.

And he certainly got it, with striker Craig Nelson bagging a hat-trick.

Nelson, who has been used as a substitute to good effect lately, took his chances well to send Roofing into the next round.

McLoughlin was delighted with the result, and especially the performance.

He said: "We played some very good football. Nelson played well, and got his hat-trick, but his all-round performance was good.

"Gary Frater played his first game in goal for six weeks and didn't have a lot to do, but took command at the back and saved the few good chances they had."
