Simonside book a semi-final place

SIMONSIDE beat Washington Town 4-0 to book a place in the semi-final of the Mark Blake Cup.

Simonside took the game to Washington, who were prepared to sit and hit on the break.

The home side took the lead on 38 minutes through Kevin Tron, whose cross looped over the stranded goalkeeper and into the corner of the net.

The second half started with Washington pushing for the equaliser, but on 56 minutes Simonside went further ahead.

Sean Edwards was challenged by the last defender and the ball dropped to Nick Pain, who lobbed the ball over the advancing goalkeeper into the empty net.

Simonside went 3-0 up when Washington failed to clear their lines and the ball was deflected into the net off James Roberts.

And David Scroggins ended Washington's chances when he scored with a header from a corner with six minutes remaining.
