League leaders Benwell Hill host South Shields in the NEPL Premier Division.

Shields have started with two defeats and must improve their batting if they are to prosper this season.

Benwell Hill skipper Peter Halliday said “Luke Mussett is injured and will probably not have recovered in time to take his place in the team.

“The overseas professional has yet to arrive due to a visa problem, but he may be here this week.

“Our start has been a good one, two wins, but we still need to improve week on week, especially verses South Shields.

Whitburn have a tough game when they travel to South Northumberland. The Villagers were well beaten last weekend, while South North disposed of Shields in a narrow game.

South North skipper Adam Cragg said: “The team stays the same after last week’s victory. We were happy to get over the line due to the wise old owls in the side, who know how to win in most, if not all situations, good or bad.”

In the First Division, Willington entertain Boldon, who are hoping for a strong season.

Boldon captain Chris Ellison said: “We’re one of the better teams and we are looking forward to our game against a good team.

“Barry McCarthy, our Durham player ended up not playing last week but will return this week, alongside Nick Sampson-Barnes is returning, so Jack Sargon is going to the second team.”
