South Shields travel to Winlaton Vulcans tomorrow for their final game of the 2016/17 season.

Still awaiting confirmation on their fate, Shields know they must secure a four-try bonus-point win to have any chance of escaping the dreaded drop.

Winlaton, who secured another year in DN2 a few weeks back, are in a decent run of form with home victories over Ashington, Seaton Carew and Blyth, and will be looking to finish the season on a high.

In the season opener back in September, Winlaton took the spoils in a 13-29 win at Grosvenor Road.

The Hedworth Hall sponsored side go into the game without Matty Stephenson, Mark Walker and Matty Soroka, while Daniel Whitelaw is also unavailable.

The pack will be as experienced as possible and won’t be changed from their last game at home to Sunderland.

In the backs, the club will see the welcome return of Gary Bates, who missed the last game with concussion, while Ian Arkley is also available.

The game will kick off at 3pm at Axwell View (NE21 4BW).

South Shields Mariners are also in action as they host Medicals Serpents at Brinkburn, with a kick off time of 3pm.
