'Toon need to keep run going' - Harps
NEWCASTLE United gave their fans an early Christmas present at the Ricoh Arena last night.
But goalkeeper Steve Harper – who kept a fourth successive clean sheet in United's 2-0 win over Coventry City – isn't getting carried away with the club's seven-game winning run.
Newcastle's seven-point lead over second-placed West Bromwich Albion means they will top the Championship table on Christmas Day, whatever happens in their next two games.
However, Harper is cautious as ever, believing the lead could crumble away to nothing if he and his team-mates take their eyes off the ball, believing the job is already done.
"The lead is far from unassailable, far, far from it," said Harper.
"We've already had a run when we got two points from four games, so if we do it again and everybody keeps winning, then we're back in the pack.
"What we need to keep doing is grinding out results. If we get to January and we're in this position, we'll keep soldiering on.
"It's great for the fans we'll be top on Christmas Day, but we have to keep the standards high."
