Hull set to beat Black Cats to £6m striker

FRAIZER Campbell looks certain to join Hull City this month, despite interest from Sunderland.

The Black Cats are believed to have inquired about the Manchester United striker's situation – an inquiry which raised the possibility that the 21-year-old would snub the KC Stadium in favour of the Stadium of Light.

But Campbell's father and agent, Keith, insisted today that Hull remains the club his son expects to be playing for next season.

Campbell is yet to sign the 1m-a-year deal offered to him by the Tigers three weeks ago.

And interest from Sunderland and negotiations over his severance payment from Manchester United appeared to put the transfer in doubt.

But Keith Campbell says the Hull move remains on and that he has not had discussions with anyone from Sunderland.

"I've spoken to two people," he said. "I've spoken to Paul Duffen (Hull chairman) and I've spoken to Phil Brown, and they're the only two people I've spoken to.

"It's just purely and simply down to Manchester United, when they sort themselves out then it's fine."

Despite City being desperate to tie up the club record 6m deal, the player now looks likely to go ahead with his original plan of taking a holiday before resolving his future.

He only returned England duty at the European Under-21 Championships yesterday, and his father insists there will be no rush.

"There are no deadlines at all," said Campbell senior.

"Fraizer has played a lot of football, and we are going to go off and enjoy the holiday, have a discussion while we're away, and see where it takes us."

City chairman Paul Duffen said: "We've done everything we can and agreed terms with the player in principle.

"We hope now that the under-21s tournament is over, we can sit down very shortly and reach a conclusion."
