PSG star Youssouf Sabaly talks about future amid Sunderland interest

The uncertainty over Sam Alladyce’s future has not halted Sunderland’s search for fresh blood, with the Black Cats desperately in need of a new right-back, regardless of who is in the dug-out.

Sunderland’s quest for signings is not helped by England’s approach for Allardyce, particularly as they are one of only three Premier League clubs – along with Burnley and Stoke – who are yet to bring in an incoming player this summer.

But Sabaly – linked with Sunderland on a season-long loan earlier this week – is a possibility for Allardyce, with his future at PSG distinctly uncertain.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a successful loan spell at fellow French side Nantes last season, but has returned to PSG as third-choice right-back after the signing of Belgian international Thomas Meunier – a player who Sunderland had also enquired about.

Bordeaux and Nantes have enquired about Sabaly, as well as Sunderland, with the France Under-21 international open-minded about his future once he has spoken with new PSG boss Unai Emery.

Sabaly told the French press: “I haven’t talked about it yet (with Emery). It’s not easy because the coach has only just arrived.

“I think I will know more in the next few days.

“Both moving abroad and staying in France interest me. I don’t have a preference. It all depends on the type of project that’s offered to me.”

While West Ham striker Diafra Sakho has been Sunderland’s big-money target in Allardyce’s transfer plans, a new right-back has bene of equal importance to the Black Cats boss.

However, the chase has proved to be frustrating after a move for ex-Newcastle United defender Davide Santon fell through at the 11th hour last week.

Santon is still expected to leave Inter Milan, but is now on the verge of a £4million switch to Serie A rivals Napoli.

The chances of last season’s loanee DeAndre Yedlin returning to the Stadium of Light also appear to be receding after the American international admitted earlier this week that he was in the dark over a Sunderland move.
