SUNDERLAND have been linked with a £7million move for Wigan winger Callum McManaman.
According to reports today, the Black Cats are hoping to pip Everton to the signing of the 22-year-old, who made a spectacular breakthrough into the Wigan first-team last season.
Everton have been favourites to land McManaman after new Toffees boss Roberto Martinez oversaw the Scouser’s progression at the DW Stadium last season.
But Sunderland have been mooted as rivals, although Wigan’s asking price is likely to be a major barrier for the Wearsiders.
Meanwhile, Sunderland have again been linked with a move for Bournemouth wideman Matt Ritchie.
Sunderland head coach Paolo Di Canio worked with Ritchie during their time together at Swindon and the 23-year-old was sold to Bournemouth without the Italian’s knowledge - one of the factors in his resignation at the County Ground.
