And Sviatchenko has slammed the Scotland midfielder claiming the lunge in the international friendly could have broken his leg.

Sub Bridcutt - currently on loan at Championship side Leeds United - clattered into the Celtic centre-back in the 79th minute, leaving him on the ground but received only a yellow from Norwegian referee Svein Oddvar Moen.

Hareide said: “It is red card. He could have broken Sviatchenko’s leg, the way he dives in.

“I don’t think he meant to be nasty, I just think he was over eager.

“But it was really bad. I saw television pictures afterwards and it was terrible.

“He could have taken his leg or his career.

“That boy should be spoken to and I hope Gordon [Strachan] will do that.”

The former Midtjylland defender, signed by Ronny Deila for £2m in January, said: “I was very lucky. It was a horrible tackle.

“When you see the replay it is unbelievable I didn’t get a serious injury.

“I said to the referee he could have broken my leg. But in a split second he had to make the decision and must have felt he touched the ball first.

“I was certain I was first to the ball and tried to pass it backwards. He came through me with all he had, 120 per cent.”

Scotland won the friendly 1-0 at Hampden Park.

Bridcutt, deemed surplus to requirements by Dick Advocaat and Sam Allardyce at the Stadium of Light this season, is on loan at Leeds United until the end of the season.
