Wayne width can help United Rout rivals
WAYNE Routledge gave Newcastle United's wings on his comeback.
And boss Chris Hughton is confident there's a lot more to come from the hard-working wide man, who set up the second of Newcastle's goals in their 3-0 win over Scunthorpe United last night.
Routledge slipped a defensive-splitting ball through for Peter Lovenkrands midway through the first half.
The 25-year-old never let up, in attack and defence, and even survived a bruising clash with visiting skipper Rob Jones, the former Gateshead defender.
And with Routledge in his side, Hughton feels his team – who have banged in 21 goals in their last five home games – are unstoppable.
"We're certainly very good here at home at the moment," Hughton told the Gazette.
"We've got players who are desperate to use the space we get, and they're playing with a lot of energy.
"We have got that width with Wayne coming back, similar to Fabrice (Pancrate).
"It's a real confidence at home at the moment.
"Wayne's a high energy player, and what people mustn't forget is the amount of work he does going back as well. He's a very fit lad – he always has been.
"For a small lad, he's physically strong, as you saw when the centre-half whacked him right in front of us. That was a hell of a whack, but he finished OK."
Left-back Jose Enrique also made his comeback from injury, while centre-half Fabricio Coloccini – who had limped out of the weekend's Tees-Tyne derby – lasted the 90 minutes.
"We took Jose off for the last 15 minutes as a precaution," added Hughton.
"Colo's come back in, and we were absolutely delighted with him. He's a real tough individual, and they're all OK."
