Cinema review: This Is 40 (15)

JUDD Apatow is back with this ‘sort-of sequel to Knocked Up’.

This Is 40 follows the lives of married couple Debbie (Leslie Mann) and Pete (Paul Rudd) who had kids young and are dealing with the upcoming big 4-0.

After years of being together, they’re struggling to rekindle that crucial spark in their relationship and balance their businesses, debt, families and kids Sadie and Charlotte, played by Mann and Apatow’s real-life children, Maude and Iris Apatow.

The outrageous comedy has everything that we’ve come to love from Apatow, and his signature blend of gross-out moments and sweetness makes this flick a genuine treat.

The couple are very identifiable and moments between them - like discussing how they would kill each other - are both hilarious and kind of cute at the same time.

Appearances from big stars like Megan Fox, Jason Segal, John Lithgow and Chris O’Dowd are hilarious and delightful.

And a cameo from Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong was a nice surprise.

The film has real heart and is packed full of laugh-out-loud moments.

Mann and Rudd have great on-screen chemistry and I laughed from start to finish.

At 134 minutes, it is a bit long for a comedy but it didn’t really matter, and the big laughs more than made up for it.

This Is 40 is out now. See it at Boldon Cineworld. To book tickets, follow this link.
