A SOUTH Shields hospital DJ was given the chance of a lifetime when he took part in an event featuring one of his favourite TV stars.
David Johnson, 23, compered an event featuring Benidorm star Crissy Rock at the weekend.
The opportunity came after David met Crissy after a show she was appearing in at the Customs House, in South Shields.
After keeping a promise she made to David that night, the comedian asked him to host her show, A Benidorm Evening with Crissy Rock, at Hedworth Hall in Dean Road, South Shields, on Sunday.
David, from Jarrow, said: “I was really surprised when Crissy’s promoter for the event, Paul ‘Goffy’ Gough, the BBC Tees radio presenter, called me a few weeks ago to tell me that Crissy had not forgotten the promise she had made to get me to host a show for her.
“I loved every minute of the evening, many of my friends were there to watch me introduce Crissy, and my grandma was also part of the audience – she told me she was very proud, and never stopped laughing at Crissy’s jokes.
“Goffy sorted everything for me on the night, and introduced me to the audience and they gave me a huge welcome when I walked on stage to take over the event, and they did the same when the show ended.”
The DJ, who works at South Tyneside Hospital and hosts his own show on South Tyneside Hospital Radio, said Crissy was lovely to him, and praised his work following the end of her show.
Crissy said: “David was a brilliant host for me – I could not have picked better. I love young people who just want to do well for themselves and are hungry to make progress in their chosen field.
“In David’s case it’s his love of radio, music and entertaining people that drives him forward. He will always be welcome on my shows, and I will definitely be joining him as a guest on his South Tyneside Hospital Radio show at some stage, and I will give him all the Benidorm gossip before we return to the TV next January.
“The most pleasing thing about the night was seeing David with his family around him and how proud they were of him – he is a natural, and I would recommend him to anyone that is looking for a great host.”
