SEASONAL CHEER ... Coun Alan Kerr at the launch of the Long Winter Nights video offer.

SEASONAL CHEER ... Coun Alan Kerr at the launch of the Long Winter Nights video offer.

COUNCIL bosses in South Tyneside are giving residents the chance to watch their festive favourites films for free this winter.

The borough’s libraries are running ‘Long Winter Nights’, a free DVD rental promotion.

Customers will be given a loyalty card which will be stamped each time they hire a disc - and they will be given the fifth one they want free.

The offer in on now and will run throughout winter until March.

Coun Alan Kerr, deputy leader of the council, said: “What better way of whiling away a winter’s night when it’s cold outside than settling down to watch a favourite film.

“There is plenty of variety in the libraries’ selection of DVDs, from classic movies and children’s films to TV series and stand up comedy.

“There’s something for all tastes and I’m sure this will be a very popular offer.”

Coun Kerr says his five favourite films are Scrooge- a Christmas Carol, White Christmas, Miracle on 34th Street, Love Actually and Enchanted April.

The offer is available in all the borough’s libraries.

The free fifth DVD applies only to weekly rentals and excludes those in the premier section.
