A HOST of South Tyneside funnymen are set to join some of the nation’s favourite comedians at a festival.
Hebburn creator Jason Cook and fellow comics Andy Fury, also from Hebburn, and Seymour Mace, from Jarrow, are among the line-up at Jesterval Comedy Festival.
The five-day long event, which will take place in Baltic Square, on Gateshead’s Quayside, is set to feature 24 shows from famous comics including Mock The Week’s Ed Byrne, Argumental’s Marcus Brigstocke, and Viz creator Simon Donald.
The festival runs from Thursday, October 3, to Monday, October 7, and will see comedians perform in a 350-seater marquee, overlooking the River Tyne.
Jason, who penned the award-winning BBC Two sitcom, will perform his brand new stand up show, I Will Make Your Life Better.
The 40-year-old will also take part in a Geordie comedy gala on Friday, October 4, alongside the likes of Bobby Pattinson and Steffen Peddie, who stars in Hebburn as Big Keith.
Jason said: “I love performing to fans in my home city.
“There is always a great atmosphere and I urge people to come down and enjoy themselves.”
Other comics set to perform are Patrick Monohan, Barry Costagnola, and Tom Binns, as well as the Improv Comedy All Stars, which stars Brigstocke, Dave Johns, Steve Frost and others.
Family entertainment is also on offer with shows for children and plenty of activities taking place on the afternoons of Saturday, October 5 and Sunday, October 6.
In previous years, the festival has been hosted across a number of pubs and theatres across Tyneside, including Gateshead Town Hall, The Sage Gateshead, The Stand and The Cluny, but this year will be contained to one site.
Jesterval director Della Haq said: “It’s worked well across different venues in the past but this time we really wanted to focus the action in one place.
“Comedy fans will be able to see some of the best acts in the business from this iconic spot on the banks of the Tyne.
“Many of these shows have come straight from sell-out runs at the Edinburgh Festival, and are going to be in our backyard.”
