COME rain or shine, a multi-platinum-selling singer is going to have a blast in South Tyneside, she says.
1990s chart topper Gabrielle will be performing as part of the SoundWaves concert in Bents Park, South Shields, on Saturday, and she cannot wait to hit the stage.
The 44-year-old – famous for hit singles including Rise, Out Of Reach, Give Me A Little More Time and Dreams, is determined to have a good time, no matter what the weather has in store.
The Londoner, born Louise Gabrielle Bobb, said: “I can’t wait to get on stage to do my thing.
“The fact that it’s outdoors is great. Obviously, we want good weather, but even if it’s a bit miserable, we’re still going to have an amazing time.
“Hey, if Dolly Parton can rock out at Glastonbury at her age in the rain, then I’m sure I can.”
Not many artists manage a music career spanning more than 20 years, and Gabrielle – set to star alongside All Saints, Texas and South Shields soul singer Lulu James – isn’t sure how she’s survived that long.
She said: “It’s strange really that I still have people who want to hear me sing, but it’s so lovely.
“I think a lot of my songs mean things to so many.
“Quite a lot of people tell me that they always listened to one of my tracks while playing football, or while driving, and I think they have connected with the music and just grown up with it.
“I am incredibly lucky that I still have this support from fans and people enjoy listening to me performing.”
Gabrielle, back in the studio recently to record new material, promises that she will be performing all of her classics.
The Brit Award winner said: “It wouldn’t be a Gabrielle gig without all the favourites. I think I’d be letting people down if I didn’t perform what they’re expecting.
“I have been writing new music in the studio, but there’s no definite date for when that will be released.
“I’ve also been spending a fair bit of time in Croatia, and I’ve been back out on the road, doing gigs.
“I’ve just been having a blast really, and I don’t want it to end.”
Tickets for SoundWaves 2014, currently being sold on a two-for-one basis, are priced £30 for adults and £20 for youngsters aged five to 16.
