Waiting for Video...

SOUTH Tyneside’s very own Paul McCartney is coming home to kick off his latest tour.

David Peterson and his band will be stirring up some Beatlemania at the Customs House, in South Shields, on Friday.

The South Shields-born musician portrays frontman McCartney in Beatlemania, a tribute group to The Beatles.

The 45-year-old, who was raised in East Boldon, said: “This is the first date of our autumn tour, so it’s great for me to be able to start it in my home town.

“I started up the band because I was a huge Beatles fan and there weren’t really many tributes around at the time.

“I put the word out and auditioned people to find the right ones, but the line-up has changed a little over the years as people have left and gone on to other things.

“Tribute acts are a really big thing, especially when the original act isn’t around any more.

“Obviously it’s now impossible for people to see The Beatles because two of them aren’t here any more, and we aim to be the next best thing.

“We really do want to pay tribute to them.

“I think people like nostalgia in music. People are always going to want to listen to Mozart and Beethoven and people are always going to want to hear The Beatles as well.”

The former Boldon Comprehensive pupil formed the band in 1993 and they have since gone on to play to sell-out audiences around the world and have an impressive list of celebrity clients, including David and Victoria Beckham, Sir Richard Branson, Madonna, Tiger Woods and Wayne Rooney. Beatlemania have also headlined the annual Beatles Convention in Liverpool and performed at the iconic Cavern Club, where The Beatles played in their early years, many times.

David added: “Our show goes in chronological order so we play the early stuff like I Want To Hold Your Hand and She Loves You to the Sgt Pepper stuff, the psychedelic stuff and the later songs.

“We’ve got more than 20 No1 singles in the show and it’s a real celebration of The Beatles. We want everyone to leave thinking it was a great night and thinking about how great The Beatles were.”

Beatlemania is also made up of Nick Bold as George Harrison, Paul McDonough as John Lennon and Dave Gee as Ringo Starr.

Tickets for the 7.45pm show cost £18.50.
