FORMER X Factor champion Shayne Ward is putting on a show in South Tyneside – and you could meet him backstage.
The That’s My Goal singer is performing in Bents Park, South Shields, next month as part of this year’s South Tyneside Summer Festival.
Shayne, crowned winner of The X Factor in 2005, will perform at a free concert on Sunday, July 13, alongside Irish pop group B*Witched, South Shields band The Waiters and town singer Chelsea Wood.
The concert kicks off at the Sea Road park at 1pm.
It is the first in a string of free gigs also featuring I’m Not In Love singers 10cc, with support from UK Rock Legends, on Sunday, July 20, and former M People lead singer Heather Small on Sunday, July 27.
Ward was mentored by Irish music manager Louis Walsh on the second series of the ITV talent contest.
The 29-year-old’s debut single, That’s My Goal, took the top spot in the chart at Christmas 2005 and sold 313,000 copies on its first day out, making it the third fastest-selling single of all time in the UK.
Ward released his debut album, on Simon Cowell’s record label Syco, in 2006 and it debuted at No 1 in both the Irish and UK charts.
His follow-up album, Breathless, was released in 2007, and it went to No 1 in Ireland and No 2 in the UK.
In 2010, after a three-year hiatus, Ward returned with his latest album, Obsession, and in 2013, he took part in celebrity TV contest Dancing On Ice.
We’re giving one fan and a friend the chance to go backstage at the gig to meet Shayne.
