TICKETS are disappearing fast for a magic convention in South Tyneside which is one of the most popular in the UK.

The South Tyneside International Magic Festival, which runs from Friday, March 14, looks set to be a sell-out, says the organiser, South Tyneside Council.

Coun Alan Kerr, the council’s deputy leader, said: “What differentiates the South Tyneside International Magic Festival from other conventions is its intimate and friendly feel.

“In order to preserve this and allow visitors close access to the performers involved, attendance is strictly limited and places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.”

The festival, now in its eleventh year, incorporates a week of activities for magic fans of all ages and will run until Sunday, March 16.

The three-day convention, which runs primarily at the Customs House in Mill Dam, South Shields, is designed specifically for professional performers and the most ardent magic fans, and includes a variety of lectures, workshops and live performances, as well as a dealer showcase.

The event will feature appearances by award-winning American mentalists The Evasons, British magician Andi Gladwin, magic veteran Mark Setteducati, American star Handsome Jack and Victorian-style double act Morgan and West, as well as many more from around the world.

They will be starring alongside a host of other artists in two Gala Shows at the venue.

A separate Family Magic Extravaganza, arranged in association with sponsor Newcastle MagicBox, will also be held.

The festival, organised by the council and magician Martin Duffy, will also feature performances in schools across the borough.

Tickets are priced at £65 for the three-day event and include full admission to all lectures, two gala shows and an exclusive midnight show by Simon Donald, co-founder of British comic magazine Viz.

Anyone who books before the end of February will be automatically entered into a free draw to win an overnight stay at the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead.
