IT’S 12 years now since Funeral For A Friend burst out of Bridgend to establish themselves as frontrunners in the UK post-hardcore scene.
A gold-selling debut album helped, and they’ve been on a roller-coaster ride since, with albums acclaimed and derided in equal measure.
This is their sixth studio offering, and the first since the loss of another original member, drummer Ryan Richards, who quit last year.
That leaves only two founding members, and where last album Welcome Home Armageddon marked a fine return to form, this one sees them go right back to where they began.
Many of the melodic touches are gone, and this is a much rawer offering, as if they were just setting out.
That works well on the likes of Nails and Sun-Less, but some tracks do sound a bit samey. Not a bad album then, but not their best. 6/10. GW
