THIS Californian quintet have sold more than 18 million records worldwide, and in some quarters are held in the same esteem as similar bands like Rage Against The Machine.
For this seventh LP, however, they’ve almost completely ditched the funk-rock with which they made their name.
Instead, they’ve opted for a more mellow radio-rock sound, which probably won’t prove especially popular with large sections of their fanbase.
In fairness, though, they pull it off reasonably well, and although these songs don’t have much staying power, most of them prove mildly enjoyable for a casual listen. 6/10. AW
