LOVES SINGING ... Grace Anne Davison, who is nominated for Young Performer of the Year, in the Pride of South Tyneside Awards 2014

A TEENAGE singer is hoping for her chance at stardom after being nominated for Young Performer of the Year.

Grace Anne Davison, of Prensgarth Way, South Shields, was put forward for the accolade by her boss, Tim Kilmartin.

The award, sponsored by Port of Tyne, is part of the Pride of South Tyneside Awards 2014, which will honour the brave, selfless and talented people of the borough.

Harton Sixth Form pupil Grace, 17, has been singing since she was 11 years old.

She performed at a charity gig at the Tavistock, in Stanhope Road, South Shields, before she was offered a regular singing spot at The White Lead, in Blackett Street, Hebburn, where she now works part time as a waitress.

Grace, who also plays guitar, said: “I love singing and the way it makes me feel. It’s an expression for me and I absolutely love being on stage.

“It feels incredible that Tim has nominated me and it would be overwhelming to win – I’d be so pleased.

“Singing is something I want to do as a career and I’d love to be on in the West End some day.”

Grace is studying for A-levels in performing arts, geography, English literature and psychology.

After her time at sixth form, she has dreams of moving to London to study at Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Arts Educational Schools.

Mr Kilmartin, who owns The White Lead and the Tavistock with brother Sean, said on his nomination form: “Grace has sang at both of our restaurants over the last two years and has wowed our customers with her exceptional voice.

“She is that good I have hired her for my own wedding this June. Grace is a very unassuming young lady who I feel would hugely benefit from a title like this to kick-start a surely very promising career within the music industry.”
