A SOUTH Tyneside pub is getting ready to rock and roll again in the name of charity.

The Travelling Man in West Boldon is preparing to host its fourth annual ‘bandfest’.

The event, to raise funds for St Clare’s Hospice in Jarrow and Brain Tumour Research, takes place on Saturday, August 2, starting at 2.30pm.

Pub boss David Guy has put together the festival with Paul Lindsay, a member of borough band the Albino Crocodiles. Mr Guy said: “St Clare’s helps a lot of people, and cancer affects a lot of people.

“I’ve lost family members myself, so it’s something that’s close to my heart. A family member of someone in the Albinos has had a brain tumour too, so we decided to help both causes.

“We’re hoping to raise more than £2,000 from the event, and hopefully it’ll be a lot of fun.

“It’s taking place in a big marquee outside, and there’s going to be hot food being served as well.

“This is the fourth year we’ve held the festival, and it’s been a real success every year so far. It just keeps getting bigger and better.

“Hopefully, everyone who comes along will have a great time and help us raise a lot of money for these worthy causes.”

The outdoor gig will see performances by the Albino Crocodiles, the Mutts, Sound Cartel, Troy Wonder Love and the Sicknotes, Suedehead and Kansas City Shuffle .

Tickets cost £5. To book, call the Newcastle Road pub on 536 3401.
