YOUNG French musicians will experience the best of British when they join South Tyneside Orchestra for a night of patriotism and tradition at the popular Proms in the Park concert.

The four young violinists, from South Tyneside’s French twin town of Epinay sur Seine, will be performing in the free event, which is taking place on Sunday from 7pm to 9pm, in South Marine Park, South Shields.

Their performance comes after three musicians from South Tyneside Orchestra travelled across the Channel last November to play alongside their French counterparts in a 40-piece string orchestra during a high-profile concert in Paris.

The Proms in the Park concert will be compered by Customs House executive director Ray Spencer, with South Tyneside Orchestra performing songs from award-winning movies and leading guests and visitors to wave their flags and sing along to classics including Jerusalem, Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory.

One of the UK’s leading opera singers, soprano Bibi Heal, will also be making a return to the borough to perform as guest soloist.

Bibi has starred in numerous operas in the UK and abroad.
