TV DREAMS ... The Garage Lives Chay Hobson, left, and Zak Boyd. Below, The Futureheads.

CREATORS of a music programme filmed in South Shields are edging closer to seeing it on the nation’s TV screens.

Bosses at Garage Rehearsals have posted the first episode of The Garage Live on video-sharing site YouTube, and it has already racked up more than 2,000 views.

The 45-minute show, funded by and filmed at the studio in Mitre Place, hopes to bring back the glory of 1980s TV show The Tube, which was hosted by Jools Holland and Paula Yates.

It features interviews and performances from local bands across the borough and the North East.

Garage Rehearsals owner Chay Hobson, of Chichester, South Shields, said: “We had a screening of the first episode at the Customs House earlier this month and it went down brilliantly.

“All the bands that featured in it came along and loads of other people turned up to see it too – there was a great turn-out and people really seemed to enjoy the show.

“We wanted to upload it on to YouTube as well, to test if there was a market out there for it, and in the first couple of days it got 1,000 views – we couldn’t believe it.

“I’m just overwhelmed by the reaction the show has had.

“It makes the dream of getting it on TV seem even more real.” The first episode features local bands like The Karma Heart, Jen Stevens and the Hiccups and Too Spicy.

A trailer for the second episode has now been put online and Chay is planning to post the full-length film in January.

Now he hopes to get big-name acts like The Futureheads and Frankie and the Heartstrings, which both hail from Sunderland, involved in the show.

Chay is also in talks with production companies in the hope of having the show picked up by a national TV channel.

He is also looking for local businesses to sponsor the show.

Anyone who is interested in becoming a sponsor, or finding out how to get their act involved onto the show, should call Chay on 07947 679107.
