NORTH East singing star Michelle Heaton has revealed she will undergo heart surgery after taking part in a TV show.
The Liberty X star has reformed with her former bandmates to take part in The Big Reunion, a series bringing back together some of the biggest names in pop bands, culminating in a 13-date live tour which will call into Newcastle.
But the 33-year-old has revealed that she will have heart surgery after the reunion, as a progression of her treatment which saw her have a heart recorder fitted last year.
The singer had a small operation at Watford General last August to fit a heart recorder, a direct result of arrhythmia – an irregularity – caused by diet pills she used to take.
She said: “After the Big Reunion gig, I’m going to have an operation, where they’ll put electrical wires into my heart. It doesn’t sound nice and I’ll be awake. They’ll measure my heartbeat, and see where the arrhythmia is coming from.”
“Then, depending on the prognosis, I could have a pacemaker fitted. I don’t want a pacemaker, but if it fixes my problem of course I will.”
The Gateshead-born star, who now lives in London with husband Hugh Hanley and their daughter Faith, took slimming pills for six years, taking the tablets every day to suppress her appetite and keep her weight steady.
