A TALENTED youngster with dreams of becoming a West End star is up for an award.

Rebekah Grace Summerhill has been nominated for Young Performer of the Year in the Pride of South Tyneside Awards.

The 12-year-old, of Readhead Road, South Shields, was put forward for the prize, sponsored by Port of Tyne, by her mum, Karen Dixon, who said: “I am just so proud of her achievements.

“She has been attending Starset Theatre since she was seven-years-old, and she is a dancer as well, but after having to stop dancing for two years because of leg problems, she has just started back a few months ago and is determined to catch up with her dance grades.

“He dream is to be working in the West End theatres, so her dancing, singing and drama is so important to her.

“A huge step forward to achieving her dreams was in January when she got the main role of Alice in Through The Looking Glass at The Customs House.

“I was so proud watching her learn a very difficult role and she sang beautifully. I was even prouder after her performances when I was stopped outside the theatre by total strangers saying that they loved her performance and thought she was an amazing singer.

“I don’t think I stopped smiling for a week afterwards.”

Rebekah, a pupil at Harton Technology College, said: “I’m very shocked, it’s definitely a nice surprise though. It would be astounding to win – it would just be amazing.

“I’d probably end up crying with joy because it would just feel so amazing.

“It would be a huge lifetime achievement.”
