A NEW rock band from South Tyneside is hoping to ‘kick off’ their career at a national music festival.
The Daytona Riots, from Hebburn, have only played a handful of gigs around the North East.
But they are in with a chance of making it on to the bill of the Greenzone festival in Loughborough at the end of June.
But the fourpiece need people to vote for them through the festival’s Facebook page to be in with a chance of progressing.
The band - who describe themselves as a garage rock ‘n’ roll group - are making a final push to get the votes they need, as the deadline for the contest is midnight tonight.
Guitarist John Barker thinks making it to the festival will give them the exposure they need to get their career off to a flyer.
The 31-year-old said: “It’s a new music festival which is raising money for military charities.
“It’s the festival’s first year, and as well as being a great cause, it has a really strong line-up, including acts like Reverend and the Makers and Jarrow’s Little Comets.
“We’d love to get on the bill alongside them, and are grateful for all the votes we’ve had so far.
“We’re in with a good shout of winning the contest if we get a few more by the end of today.”
Completing the line-up are singer Luke Andersen, Michael Cleland on bass and Dom Aitkenhead on drums.
They have already received good feedback for their demo, which was recorded by Neil Bassett from Sunderland band Hyde and Beast, and has been played on local radio stations.
The band’s influences include the Rolling Stones, The Clash and Oasis, as well as American 1960s bands like The Sonics, The Seeds and Paul Revere and the Raiders.
