RISING North East stars The Lake Poets are finally releasing their debut single.
City By The Sea will be released through Gateshead-based independent label Tiny Lights on Monday, and is available to pre-order now.
Encompassing singer-songwriter Martin Longstaff, and an ever-rotating roster of friends and peers, the outfit formed in 2010, and quickly garnered praise from around the country.
Longstaff has shared the stage with the likes of Willy Mason, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, Ben Howard, Withered Hand and The Futureheads.
The single follows The Lake Poets’ eponymous debut EP, which, following its issue in September 2010, gained national airplay from the likes of BBC6Music and Amazing Radio.
An earnest, rollicking anthem about Longstaff’s home city, the single will be accompanied by additional track Small Town.
Both were recorded at The Miners’ Hall, a century-old former coalworkers’ meeting place which is now a recording studio.
Longstaff has played gigs and festivals around the world in the past year, having completed a UK-wide tour which included spots at the O2 Academies in London, Liverpool and Glasgow.
Their performance at last year’s Split Festival in Sunderland drew one of the largest crowds of the weekend, and he also appeared at Glastonbury and Kendal Calling
The Lake Poets will open the main stage at this year’s Evolution Festival, warming up the crowd for the likes of Dizzee Rascal, Deadmau5 and Noah and the Whale.
The single will be accompanied by a video, shot on the North-East coast by Boldon Colliery’s Ian West, whose other clients include The Futureheads, Field Music and Frankie and the Heartstrings.
A launch night will take place at The Sage next Thursday, which sold out within two weeks of being announced.
