SOUTH Tyneside singing star Joe McElderry enjoyed a weekend of sellout shows in his home town at the weekend.

The 22-year-old played three gigs at the Customs House in South Shields on Saturday and Sunday.

The X Factor and Popstar to Operastar champion performed at the Mill Dam venue as part of his nationwide Set Your Soul Alive Tour.

He said: “I had an amazing time playing the three shows at the weekend, and the crowds were amazing and so supportive.

“I feel very special to have such a supportive town behind me that has been there all throughout my career so far.

“I loved every minute of playing at the Customs House.”

The tour will see Joe play more than 60 dates around the UK by the time it is over.

It is the biggest tour to date to be undertaken by the singer, also winner of another reality TV show, The Jump, this year.

The weekend’s shows were three of four sold-out gigs at the Customs House for Joe.

He also performed at the venue on Sunday, March 2.
