CANADIAN actor, singer and rapper Drake is heading for a big Tyneside date – and four lucky Gazette readers could see him for free!

The 25-year-old shot to fame as Jimmy Brooks in TV teen drama Degrassi: The Next Generation before turning his hand to music.

He first stepped out as a rapper and singer with pop appeal in 2006, when he released the first in a series of mixtapes.

He raised his profile by appearing on countless tapes and remixes, and as rumours swirled about contract offers from labels, he became one of the most talked-about artists in the industry – and support from the likes of Kanye West, Jay-Z, and Lil Wayne didn’t hurt.

By the end of June 2009, Best I Ever Had, a promotional single, had climbed to No2 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

After a fierce bidding war, Drake signed with Universal Motown, and released an EP, So Far Gone, made up of songs from a mixtape of the same name.

Thank Me Later, a full-length record featuring collaborations with the Kings of Leon, the-Dream, Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Lil Wayne, followed on the latter’s Young Money Entertainment label the following year. The album debuted at No1 on the Billboard Chart and has since been certified platinum for US sales of 1.1m.

In the UK it achieved gold sales on its way to No15 in the chart, and last year’s follow-up, Take Care, did even better, reaching No5 and producing a string of hits due to collaborations with Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne and Rihanna.

Now Drake is taking his show on the road, including a date at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle on Monday, April 23.

We’ve teamed up with Capital FM’s new breakfast show, Bodg, Matt and JoJo, to offer four lucky readers the chance to be there for free.

To be in with a chance of winning a pair of tickets, answer this question: Which star features on Drake’s single Take Care – Rihanna, Pixie Lott, or Katy Perry?

Answers on a postcard please to Drake Competition, The Shields Gazette, Chapter Row, South Shields NE33 1BL, or by e-mail to gazette.comps@northeast-press.co.uk, by 5pm next Wednesday.

n Tune into Bodg, Matt and JoJo every weekday between 6-10am on 105-106 Capital FM for more chances to win great prizes.
