SOUTH Tyneside has The X Factor!
Bosses of the ITV talent show are coming to hold open auditions in the borough as they look to unearth our latest talent.
The trials are set to be held at The Customs House in Mill Dam, South Shields, on Wednesday, April 16.
Three X Factor winners have already come out of South Tyneside, and programme producers are hoping they could find the next one here as well.
Joe McElderry, from Westoe, South Shields, stormed to victory on the show in 2009, paving the way for fellow borough residents.
Then in 2011, Perrie Edwards, from Whiteleas, and Jade Thirlwall, from Laygate, both South Shields, entered the competition as solo artists.
In the bootcamp stages of the contest, they were put into a girlband alongside Jesy Nelson and Leigh-Anne Pinnock.
The group, Little Mix, went on to become the first ever to win the title.
Customs House executive director, Ray Spencer, said: “I’ve had a call from The X Factor saying they want to come here for the first round of the auditions.
“They’ll be open auditions so anyone can come along and give it a go. It’s really lovely to carry on that relationship with the X Factor, as obviously South Tyneside has a tradition of producing winners, with Joe, Jade and Perrie all hailing from South Shields.
“We’re very excited to host the auditions here and would encourage everyone to come along and give it their best shot. Let’s show them that fantastic brand of talent we have here in South Tyneside.”
Anyone aged 16 or over can audition for The X Factor.
The open auditions at The Customs House will run from 10am to 5pm on April 16 and anyone hoping to sing for a place on the show can simply turn up.
The trials will not be held in front of the judges, including Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole, but producers of the show who will select candidates to go through to the televised auditions round.
