SINGING star Joe McElderry has added another hometown gig to his latest tour.
The 22-year-old is now set to play three gigs at the Customs House, in South Shields, as part of his Set Your Soul Alive Tour.
The X Factor and Popstar to Operastar champ will perform around 50 gigs across the country on his latest tour.
Joe, who hails from Westoe, already had gigs scheduled at the Mill Dam venue at 7.30pm on both Saturday, March 22, and Sunday, March 23.
A 2.30pm matinee performance has now been added for the Sunday, due to popular demand.
Joe said: “I’ve always had amazing support from South Shields and the North East, and it’s fantastic to know that it’s still there.
“This is my biggest tour yet and I can’t wait to get out there.
“I’ve played almost every venue in the North East, except the Customs House, and it’s a venue that’s special to me because I used to work there.
“It means a lot to me that I’ve been able to include it in this tour, and I’m so excited to go back.
“I think it’ll be really strange being backstage though, because I used to take drinks to people in the dressing room when I worked there.
“I’m really excited about the tour though, I can’t wait.”
It was at the Customs House in 2008 where Joe sang his way to victory in the Pride of South Tyneside awards, winning the title of Young Performer of the Year.
The following year, he went on to be crowned winner of the X Factor, and in 2011 he came out on top in Popstar to Operastar.
Customs House marketing consultant Peter Darrant said: “The phones have been ringing off the hook ever since we announced the first Joe gig.
“We’re very excited to have him on stage here at the Customs House, and we’re thrilled to add a third gig.”
Joe also recently announced a special one-off Christmas show at the Whitley Bay Playhouse.
Driving Home For Christmas with Joe McElderry will be at the venue on Friday, November 29.
The festive gig is the only one Joe will be able to fit into his busy schedule during the Christmas period after taking on his first leading pantomime role as Cinderella’s Prince Charming.
The star is in the show at the Beck Theatre in Hayes, Middlesex, from December 14 to January 5, next year.
Tickets for the Customs House shows cost £20.50 with £19 concessions.
