A SOUTH Tyneside club is celebrating a pitch perfect birthday.
Sunshine Singing Club has just marked its first year.
The group, which meets at The CustomSpace, in The Captain’s Row, South Shields, was formed by 21-year-old Samantha Johnson.
The trainee primary school teacher, from South Shields, says it has been a fantastic year.
She said: “The club has just gone from strength to strength. We started off with one class at Mortimer Community Association, but we moved to CustomSpace in September and started another class for the older ones.
“The kids are just loving it too, and it’s really helping to build their confidence. It’s amazing to see the difference in the kids who have been coming since the beginning. They should be really proud of themselves.
“We do a showcase at the end of every term, which is great for the parents because they don’t often stay in the classes.
“We sing all sorts of things too, like pop, rock, Disney songs, songs from Glee, but usually I ask the kids what they want to sing. They love singing songs by One Direction and Little Mix but we always like to put our own little spin on them.”
Samantha added: “We’ve put on a few shows too. We did one at Bede’s World, in Jarrow, and we performed at Cancer Connections’ Faith, Hope and Love Relay, in Bents Park, South Shields, which we’re doing again this year.
“I’m really looking forward to another year with my club, and hopefully some new members too.”
The club’s new term launched on Wednesday, April 23, and new students are welcome.
Classes will run weekly during term time.
Sessions for children, aged five to 11, run from 5.30-6.30pm, and from 6.30-7.30pm for those aged 12 to 16.
The first session is free and cost £3 after that.
