THEY were the very epitome of cool ... Now the legendary talents of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jnr are being brought back to life by The Rat Pack Vegas Spectacular.
The swinging show, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, is making its way to the Sunderland Empire for one night only on Thursday, October 25.
It stars Wayne Kennedy as Dean Martin, Roman Marek as Frank Sinatra and James Jnr as Sammy Davis Jnr.
The trio will work their way through the Rat Pack’s biggest hits, including Come Fly With Me, Under My Skin, Mr Bojangles, Lady Is A Tramp and Mack The Knife.
They’ll be joined on stage by Joanne Leigh who will portray Marilyn Monroe and sing famous songs like I Wanna Be Loved By You and Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend.
Speaking about the show’s milestone anniversary, Wayne said: “We just keep trying to move forward every year as much as we can – but the great thing about the music is that it’s timeless.
“We’re excited about having Marilyn Monroe with us now and she’s going down really well, especially with the men in the audience.
“She’s very good with the off-the-cuff humour and the comedy works really well.
“The show is about more than just the songs and we try to bring the personality of the singers alive and we love a bit of banter with the audience.”
In 2002, Wayne performed his first Rat Pack solo gig at a bar in Staffordshire, to a crowd of 11 people, and since then the show has got bigger and bigger, taking Wayne and the others around the world.
He said: “I think the reason the music has lived on for so long is that it’s so classy.
“Acts like Westlife and Robbie Williams have recorded the songs and brought them to a younger audience, and we’re starting to see a real age range at our shows and that’s fantastic.
“It’s the kind of music that will live on forever and will be enjoyed by people of all ages.
“We hope that our show is as spectacular as the name suggests and there are some big moments in there, but it’s a family friendly show as well and we love seeing people come along with their kids.”
He added: “I love playing Dean Martin – he’s just so cool and suave.
“My favourite song to sing is Everybody Loves Somebody, it’s just a wonderful song and the audience always enjoy it.
“People always get up at the end and join in when we do our finale and it’s a great sight.
“We’re all really looking forward to coming back to Sunderland.
“People who have seen us before should come along again because the show is different to last time, and I hope that newcomers will enjoy it too.”
