The Westovian Theatre Society will be back on stage next week with farce Kindly Keep It Covered.

The show follows Roland Dickerby, who runs a health spa with his wife, Julia, bought with the proceeds of a hefty insurance payout from the death of her first husband, Sidney.

But when Sidney turns up alive and well, the couple find themselves in an awkward predicament.

The play will be on at the Westovian Theatre, in Pier Parade, South Shields, from Monday to Saturday, July 16.

Director Gareth Hunter said: “Roland and Julia have bought a spa with the life insurance policy from her ex-husband, but he turns up and things go awry and there are lots of twists and turns.

“It’s a bit of a mad-cap off-the-wall farce and it’s been great working on it with the cast.

“We’ve had such a laugh in rehearsals so I think it’ll be a testament to them if they can get through the show without laughing at each other.

“We’ve got Craig Richardson and Stephen Sullivan back together on the Westovians stage for the first time in a while. They play brilliantly off each other and I’ve worked with them quite a lot so we’ve got a good dynamic.

“The cast is made up of Westovians regulars and some guests but everyone is great and it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

He added: “People should come along because they’ll just have a great night out and a laugh.

“There’s nothing serious about this play, or political or stressful, and sometimes people just need to get out of the house and have a right laugh and enjoy themselves, and that is exactly what a show like this is for.”

The show runs from Monday to Saturday, July 16, at 7.30pm each night.

Tickets cost from £6.50. To book, call the box office on 0191 456 0980.
