HARD KNOCK LIFE ... the cast of Annie at the Customs House

THE sun’ll come out tomorrow for a talented group of youngsters.

A troupe of young actors will take to the stage at the Customs House, in South Shields, with Annie Jr.

The version of the musical Broadway show runs at the Mill Dam venue from tomorrow until Sunday.

It’s being staged by members of the Customs House Summer School.

Youngsters Jessica Emms and Emily Mohan will share the title role and will be joined on stage by a cast of 28, aged from eight to 17.

Director Gareth Hunter said: “Rehearsals are going fantastically.

“We have a really talented cast and they are having a lot of fun with the show.

“It’s always great to work with young people as they have so much spirit, and when they have this much talent, it makes my job easy.”

Musical director Stacey Ghent added: “They are really sounding lovely. Everyone knows the songs from Annie, so it’s really important to do them justice and they are doing that and more.

“The cast have picked everything up so quickly so it has made working with them a breeze. They are a lovely cast and I’m sure they’ll make all their families really proud.”

The cast will also be joined by two dogs – Lola and Phoebe – sharing the role of Annie’s furry friend Sandy.

The tale of Little Orphan Annie is already much-loved due to its Broadway and movie success but a new version will hit cinemas screens later this year.

Choreographer Hazel Pude said: “It’s such an iconic show. It’s one of those musicals which appeals to all ages and with the new film coming out at Christmas it will gain a new generation of fans.

“The kids are doing a great job and we’re looking forward to showing everyone the fantastic energy they have. Grab your tickets now, it’s sure to be a first-class show.”

Tickets for performances of Annie Jr, which will take place between Friday and Sunday, cost from £8, and are available from the box office on 454 1234 or online from.customshouse.co.uk
