MUSIC fans in South Tyneside will hopefully be dancing in the sunlight in July when the borough’s summer festival returns.
The Gazette can today reveal the first acts announced for the line-up at Bents Park in South Shields for this year’s South Tyneside Summer Festival are Toploader and The South.
Toploader have sold more than two million records with hits such as Dancing in the Moonlight and Achilles Heel, and earlier this year released comeback single Turn it Around.
They will be sharing the bill at the park on July 21 with The South – made up of former members of The Beautiful South Dave Hemingway, Alison Wheeler, Damon Butcher, Tony Robinson and Gaz Birtles.
It is the first of three large-scale gigs planned for Bents Park as part of the wider festival, which is organised annually by South Tyneside Council and combines free concerts and activities for all between June and August.
Last year’s festival was a roaring success and saw huge crowds at Bents Park for gigs by bands including Scouting for Girls, Matt Cardle and The Feeling.
As well as the bands in the park, there will also be a live music spectacular over the August bank holiday weekend at the seafront.
A council spokesman said: “This will be a huge event with a fantastic line-up, featuring amazing stars from the world of music.
“Further details, including ticket arrangements, are to be announced very shortly.”
This year will be the last for Tommy the Trumpeter’s Tommy’s Parties.
