YOUNG dancers in South Tyneside are getting ready to showcase their moves to internationally famous TV stars.

Mother and daughter duo Christi and Chloe Lukasiak, stars of the American reality show Dance Moms, will be at Hebburn Community Centre on Saturday.

The pair, labelled the dynamic duo, are to hold two dance workshops at the venue in Argyle Street, as part of their tour of the UK.

They are set to make only a handful of appearances on the whirlwind tour of Britain, and hold even fewer workshops.

Helen Telford, who runs Team Telford dance class at Move It studios in the community centre, has organised the event, and says it is a “real coup” for Hebburn CA.

She said: “They have chosen Hebburn out of hundreds of venues to appear at.

“I have been in talks with them about it for about three months, and couldn’t say anything about it until I found out that it was definitely happening.

“I showed them pictures of Hebburn CA and they were impressed with the facilities.

“They will be given a good impression of Hebburn and the North East when they visit.”

Reality show Dance Moms, which is aired in the UK on Sky channel Lifetime, follows the budding stars of The Abby Lee Miller Dance Company but, more closely, their mums, who are there for every rehearsal and performance.

Stage mum Christi, who owns a company which teaches pre-school children about health and fitness, and her daughter Chloe, are two of the show’s main stars.

A British spin-off of Dance Moms has also just been announced, with West End star and professional dancer Jennifer Ellison set to host the eight-part series.

Helen said her dance students are avid fans.

She said: “When I told them that Christi and Chloe were coming, they couldn’t believe it.

“Some of them watch the programme religiously, and were saying this appearance is the best thing that’s happened to them in their lives.

“They keep asking if it is definitely still happening, and it has made some of them watch the programme even more.”

About 100 people are set to attend the sell-out event at the weekend.

Chloe and Christi will make two appearances: one just for dancers, and one for dancers and a guest.

Those strutting their stuff with Chloe will take part in a choreographed routine, which will end with an hour-long talk, question and answer session and photograph opportunity.

Each person taking part will also be given an autographed photo.

“I love my job and thought why not give showcase Hebburn?” said Helen.

“Chloe and Christi’s manager seemed impressed when I showed them pictures of Hebburn CA, and the fact that it has all the facilities they need under one roof.

“The manager of the CA wants to make sure everything is in place for them when they get here, to give a good impression of Hebburn.”
