HEBBURN once again became a TV set as filming on location kicked off for the show’s second series.
Cast and crew members of the BBC2 sitcom, penned by comedian Jason Cook, arrived in the town yesterday to shoot the final scenes for the show.
They’ll call ‘It’s a wrap’ on Friday, after spending the week filming in places such as Park Road – the street where Jason grew up – Hebburn Shopping Centre and The Kelly pub, in Hedgeley Road, which was re-named Swayze’s for the series.
South Shields comedian Chris Ramsey, who stars as main character Jack, and Jim Moir – better known as Vic Reeves – who plays his dad Joe, were in Park Road yesterday, filming outside the TV family’s home.
Jason, 40, said: “It’s brilliant to be here – we’re back home. This is the street I grew up on and it’s where we set Hebburn.
“We’ve already shot a scene down by the river today and it’s the first day of location so it’s very exciting.
“It’s going good so far, we’re knackered. This is week seven of the shoot and we finish on Friday.
“It looks amazing, the stuff we’ve done so far, and I’m hoping people are going to like it.
“I think it’s better than last time. It’s more intricate and we’ve let the characters evolve more and the actors are having a lot more fun because they know their characters – we’re all having a real party.”
He added: “It’s incredibly important to get as much of Hebburn in the show as we can. It all comes down to budget, obviously, and how much we can afford, because it’s very expensive to film here.
“We’re going to have a lot of late nights this week just trying to get in as much as we can.”
Hebburn was recently nominated in the comedy section of the National Televion Awards.
Jason said: “The NTA nomination is a bit intense because we’re just a tiny, little show. We’re up against things like Miranda, Derek and Mrs Brown’s Boys so we’re among the giants and it’s just nice to get on that list.”
