THE founder of the Great North Dog Walk says it could be a new world record breaker.

Tony Carlisle is feeling confident this year’s event could see South Tyneside making a new world record for the largest dog walk.

In 2011, 22,742 pooches took part in the challenge, but Tony from South Shields, reckons today’s efforts could beat that as 24,000 were expected to take part.

He said: “We are on course for a new world record, 24,000 dogs are signed up, so we shall have to wait to see if that many turn up and take part. We’re feeling confident.”
