TWO talented women from South Tynesiders are holding a summer workshop for eager young performers.
Rachael Neilson, 20, and Sara Conroy, 22, of Spark Performing Arts, are inviting kids to give their classes a go.
The girls, both from South Shields, are hosting a two-day workshop at their base in Trinity House, Laygate, this weekend.
Rachael said: “It’s going to be a taster of everything we offer at Spark Performing Arts –singing, dancing and acting.
“Some of our existing members will be coming along for it as well, but it’s a chance for people who are thinking about giving it a go to come along and see if they like it, and make some new friends along the way.
“We have some kids in our classes who say they don’t like singing and dancing, but by the second session they’re up on stage on their own, loving it.”
Rachael said she and Sara are keen to see a wider age range of youngsters coming along to their classes.
“We’ve got a lot of younger ones, but we started our classes in April, which was right in the middle of exam season for the older ones, so we didn’t get many of them along.
“But we’re hoping to see some more in September.
“At the end of the two-day workshop, we’ll be holding a little showcase, where we invite the children’s parents along so they can see what their kids have been learning, and they can show off to their family and friends.”
Spark Performing Arts runs a class for seven to 11-year-olds from 10am to noon on Saturdays.
A class for those aged 12 and over runs from 6pm to 9pm each Thursday.
Both classes cost £5 the first week, and £7 each week after that.
The summer workshop runs from 10am to 3pm on Saturday and Sunday, and costs £20.
Youngsters can take a packed lunch or use the canteen at Trinity House.
