X FACTOR star Alexandra Burke is heading for South Shields to take part in the Great North Passion this Easter.
The 25-year-old singer will join presenter Fern Britton in re-telling the story of the Passion for the Good Friday event, which is being broadcast live by BBC One.
Singing Amazing Grace and leading a finale of (Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher, she will be accompanied by a massed choir of local singers, along with other performers, opera singer Graeme Danby and indie-rock band The Futureheads.
She will also perform her brand new song, Where Do Hearts Go?
Burke, who rose to fame after winning The X Factor in 2008, said: “Gospel has always had a big influence on my music.
“I love that spiritual sound, so to perform such heartfelt songs in the context of re-telling the incredibly powerful story of the Passion will be an amazing experience.”
The stage will be nestled inside a giant installation, the shape of a cross, made from 64 shipping containers, on South Shields seafront.
The Great North Passion tells the story of the Passion, from Christ’s trial and suffering to his eventual death.
Members of the public can still join the massed choir and sing on stage with Alexandra Burke.
