SOUTH Tyneside’s Little Mix stars are going out on a limb to fight cancer.
Perrie Edwards and Jade Thrilwall, from South Shields, along with the rest of their group, have had messages painted on their limbs to encourage women to sign up for Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life.
The gutsy message which reads, ‘In your face cancer’, captures the fighting spirit of this year’s series of events.
Jade, 20, from Laygate, South Shields, said: “We are incredibly proud to be supporting Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life and helping the charity to fight a disease that affects every single one of us in some way.
“Please join us and send a message to cancer, to tell it that it’s going down!
“Everyone who runs, walks, watches or fundraises at Race for Life is so important in helping to beat cancer. So come on girls, what are you waiting for? Sign up now!”
Race for Life, which is in partnership with Tesco, is an women-only series of events that raises millions of pounds every year to help defeat cancer by funding lifesaving research.
Money raised allows Cancer Research UK’s doctors, nurses and scientists to advance research, which is helping to save the lives of men, women and children across the North East.
The nearest events to the borough will be taking place at Saltwell Park, Gateshead, on Sunday, May 5; Herrington Country Park, Sunderland, on May 19, and Newcastle Town Moor on July 21.
Paul Wadsworth, Cancer Research UK spokesman, said: “We’re issuing the rallying cry ‘Cancer, we’re coming to get you’ to mums, daughters, sisters, grandmas and friends, encouraging them to sign up as soon as possible.
“Race for Life is non-competitive. It’s not about being fit or fast.
“Most women are able to walk 5k in an hour while chatting and having fun. Or they can choose to jog, run or even dance around the course if they prefer.
“Women of all shapes, sizes, ages and levels of fitness take part in Race for Life.
“They come from different backgrounds and walks of life but are united by their absolute determination to take on cancer and beat it.
