FORMER X Factor champ Joe McElderry has been confirmed as the headline act at Pride Glasgow this year.

The 20-year-old, of Westoe, South Shields, will perform at the gay festival on July 14.

Ross Stevenson, Pride Glasgow festival director, said: “Securing the chart-topping artist has been a major coup for the festival.

“We have really tried hard this year to up our game, and securing Joe as the headline act shows we are committed to continue to grow the event and make Pride Glasgow an event that the city can be proud of.”

Glasgow has held Pride events in 2008 and 2010, with this year’s set to be the third. Joe won the X Factor in 2009.

Last year, he secured his reality TV crown when he won Popstar to Operastar last year.

He came out as gay in July 2010.
