Arson probe launched after car fire spreads to South Shields home

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service (TWFRS) and Northumbria Police were called to Nevinson Avenue in Whiteleas, South Shields, last night, Wednesday, November 18, following reports a car was alight.
Police have since confirmed it is being treated as a suspected arson attack, with firefighters supporting a joint investigation into the blaze, which also caused fire and smoke damage to the front of the house.

Hide AdA spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Shortly after 8.40pm yesterday we received a report of a car on fire at Nevinson Avenue, South Shields.
"Emergency services attended and dealt with the blaze.
"Inquires into the cause of the fire are on going.”
A TWFRS spokesperson added: “We received the call at 8.34pm and crews from South Shields arrived to find a car fire that had spread to the front of the house.
"Thankfully the occupier was already out of the property, uninjured, when the crews arrived.
“However, despite the swift action of the firefighters, parts of the property were severely damaged, with some smoke damage throughout.
