Asda 24-hour petrol station given green light in South Shields
Planning chiefs have agreed the supermarket in Coronation Street can go ahead with its plans for a four-pump, eight position filling station in its car park – with conditions.
The build will be in the site of its current grocery collection site, with a loss of 31 parking spaces.

A kiosk will also be created which would accept cash and cards.
The news will come as a welcome addition for most shoppers, after many took to social media to praise the plans.
According to figures given by Asda during the application process, it is estimated 70% of the trips to the station will be made by staff and customers who will already be accessing the store.

In a bid to reduce congestion and queues, each pump will have extendable hoses, allowing customers to use any of the pumps regardless of what side their petrol cap sits on.
The existing click and collect canopy will be relocated to another part of the car park.
There was no one available at Asda to comment on the planning approval or time frame as to when the petrol pumps will be installed and operational.
