Concern for man sparks alert near to Tyne Dock yard
But after police and other support services were sent to check on the man, they managed to track him down to a Metro station 10 miles away.
The report was made to Northumbria Police just after 7.10am today, after the man was spotted near to the former McNulty's yard site off Commercial Road in Tyne Dock, South Shields.
The caller was worried the man would enter the river.

Hide AdHM Coastguard, alongside Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade and South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade, were called to the docks to help police and a search was made.
Inquiries tracked down the man to Monument Metro Station in Newcastle a short time later.
Police found he was safe and well.
