Fire authority's pledge to support dying workers with charter
At a meeting of the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Authority (TWFRA), fire chiefs and union leaders officially signed up to the Dying to Work Charter.
The agreement commits the service to helping its staff stay in work as long as they wish to while fighting illness.

Hide AdSpeaking at the meeting, Trade Union Congress regional secretary northern Beth Farhat said: “The charter is so important and it’s great you’re signing it today because it’s a recognition that you invest in your staff’s health and wellbeing.”
By signing up to the charter TWFRA accepts that ‘safe and reasonable work can help maintain dignity, offer a valuable distraction and can be therapeutic in itself’.
