History comes alive for South Shields youngsters
The Year 6 pupils at Hadrian Primary School took a trip to Hartlepool to get experience of the Great War.
Teachers Miss Pattison and Miss Christie said: “To broaden the project, the pupils engaged in a series of activities, including a trip to Heugh Battery Museum, on the Headland at Hartlepoo,l where they experienced a trench on the Western Front and learned about the attack on the town by German cruisers in 1914.

Hide Ad“They also heard from a pilot, working for the Port of Tyne.
Touchingly they wrote messages of condolence to the pilots and crew of the Protector, which was sunk in December 1916, with the loss of its 19 crew members, and placed them in ornately decorated period bottles.”
