Man injured after falling while climbing Marsden Rock at around 1am

Both the Sunderland Coastguard and South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade were called to help paramedics after the alarm was raised.
The incident took place at around 1.30am on Saturday, August 22, when emergency services were called to reports that a man had fallen a “sufficient distance” whilst climbing the south side of Marsden Rock.

Hide AdParamedics from the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) were at the scene treating the man for a foot injury when both the Sunderland Coastguard and the South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade (SSVLB) arrived.
Coastguard officers then carried the stretcher over the rocks to the Tynemouth RNLI inshore lifeboat where the man was transferred to the all weather lifeboat so he could be transported to the ferry landing at South Shields.
He was then taken to South Tyneside Hospital for further treatment.
A NEAS spokesperson said: “We were called at 1.13am this morning to reports of a person injured from a fall at Mardsen Rock. We sent two HART resources and an ambulance and transported one male patient with a foot injury to South Tyneside Hospital.”

Hide AdTom Fennelly, from the SSVLB, commented: “We were called out after an adult male had attempted to climb the south side of Marsden Rock.
"It is understood that he had fallen a sufficient distance and was being treated by paramedics.”
A spokesperson for the Sunderland Coastguard added: “We were called out during the night to assist the ambulance service with a person who had fallen whilst climbing Marsden Rock.
“As we arrived on scene with South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade (SSVLB), the casualty was being treated by paramedics from the North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust.
